Bringing education closer to the people is one objective that the government is trying to pursue in the face of limited resource. Along this line, the Department of Education, upon the initiative of the Anakan Barangay Council, took the effort to establish another public secondary school in Barangay Anakan, Gingoog City. This brings to thirteen the number of high schools in Gingoog City. Last March, PUNDASAN HS was inaugurated in Barangay Santiago, Gingoog City.

In or der t o promote transparency in all government procurement projects, the Bids and Awards Committee of DepED Gingoog City conducted a public bidding on May 26, 2011 for the following projects for CY 2011: 1. Construction of 3-seater Type II toilets in Daan Lungsod ES, Pedro Maligmat ES, Mimbunga NHS, and Gingoog City Comprehensive National High School. These construction projects will address the lack of water and sanitary facilities in most schools. 2. Repair of 10 CL at Bal-ason Elementary School. The school's classrooms were so dilapidated that a major facelifting is needed. This bidding was done after a mandatory posting at the PhilGEPS website (PhilGEPS stands for Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System), which can be accessed by practically everybody all over the world. After the bid opening, a bid evaluation and post qualification will be done to determine the lowest calculated and responsive bid (LCRB).

The prebid conference for various BEFF CY 2011 projects will be held at the Division Conference Hall at the DepED Division Office Building Conference Hall, 9:00 AM. Prospective bidders for the repair, construction and furniture procurement projects are expected to attend.

With the information that funds for the rehabilitation of the Gabaldon building at Manuel Lugod ES is available, the Physical Facilities Coordinator of Gingoog City Division, together with DepED Engineer Sandy Simo went to Manuel Lugod ES to have a personal look at the condition of the building. The floor in one of the seven classrooms was opened up, enough for the engineer to go down. Engr. Simo studied the structure below and saw some floor joist that needs replacement. The floor itself needs many replacements, owing to the age of the building, which was supposedly built in 1932. Engineer Simo started making exploratory drawings/sketches to have a clear guide for estimating repair works. The building has seven rooms, four at the corners and three in the middle. Architect Patawaran explained that before, the four corner rooms served as classrooms while the three middle classrooms have movable partitions that served as session hall for functions like meetings, school convocations

Yesterday I received this long letter from Engr. Oliver R. Hernandez, Chief PFSED informing us that we still have 23 schools which have not submitted their GIS-BSPS forms. This forms have been distributed to all school heads in 2008 where it was given as a bring home work after the orientation. Some submitted on time. Others submitted after 3 months. These 23 did nothing. Hence, after a long hiatus, a wake up call came, insering the basic form so that it could be facilitated soon. This GISBSPS is a project of DepED School Mapping Unit, to have a database of all school sites including the its size, geographic features, student population and its geographic coordinates. The Ginsaugon experiences taught that it is important to really establish the school's location. After the landslide that wiped out a Ginsaugon elementary school, there was a hard time locating the school buildings in order to recover the victims. Hopefully this year we will be able to submit 100% of the GISBSPS

Books from Children International were turned over to DepED Gingoog City today in a ceremony held at Gingoog City Comprehensive National High School. There were 26,000 books in a container van. SDS Samson and other DepED Officials attended the turn-over. Mr. Domingo Buenaflor from Children International was also present.

It's the 3rd of May and we hopefully finish all discussion regarding PhilGEPS activities, more particularly in the posting of awards and supplemental bid bulletins. No reason for any slippages in the future, COA's on our shoulders in every step of the way. Onwards to more efficient and transparent government transactions!
